The McPherson Abduction
In 1998, The UPN network presented a documentary titled Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County in which depicts the McPherson family being abducted by Aliens. This recreation of a supposed real tape was filmed using home video to give the appearance of the taping of actual events and has thus led to confusion about its validity. The question remains of where the real tape, if there is one, can be found.
The tape tells the story of the McPherson family gathered for Thanksgiving dinner. The camera is situated in Tommy’s left hand. The power goes out. Kurt and Brian go to check the fuses; Tommy follows with his camera. Brian makes attempts to open the box and gets burned. A transformer atop a pole down the road is throwing sparks. Tommy’s camera finds eerie lights in the woods. They go investigate.
They find a UFO in a field nearby. Two aliens exit the ship and zap some cows with ray guns. The boys rush back to the house. The men gather some shotguns. Suddenly, there a high-pitched noise and everyone but six-year-old Rose is affected. After strapping a flashlight to his gun barrel, Kurt grabs some keys. He is going to get the SUV and they are all going to leave.
Kurt goes outside; Tommy follows. The truck doesn’t start. They try to check the engine, but a light flashes starts smoking. He opens the hood to discover a melted battery. They return to the house. The family is gathered in the living room. Crawling sounds are head on the roof. Kurt leads the way up the stairs, where he is greeted by laser blasts and responds with shotgun blasts. He tells everyone to go downstairs.
A ball of light comes into the house and knocks Renee into a deep sleep. The men leave to find help. The tape jumps ahead an hour and they suffer some lost time. Gunshots can be heard outside and the power starts to flicker. Everyone starts feeling a burning sensation on the backs of their necks. They discover triangle-shaped burns.
Everyone is now hysterical as more shots can be heard outside. Tommy goes outside to discover a couple of mangled shotguns but not his brothers. The camera turns to the woods where we can see strange lights and two figures approaching. Everyone goes back in the house; they barricade the door. The camera is set down and the picture goes black.
Tommy then gives a tearful testimonial and wonders if he’ll live to see tomorrow. He searches all the rooms and his bedroom and then suddenly comes face-to-face with an alien. He drops and we see Tommy frozen in a trance-like state. The tape stops. The family and their guests haven’t been seen since.
The tape is a depiction of a supposedly real incident; the actors’ credits roll at the end. There are many components from pop-culture’s alien abduction scenario and that makes this tape a bit suspicious. Whatever you believe, this is an eerie and highly entertaining piece of footage.

I saw the original tape on TV back in 1993
Here are some main differences between the original and the available versions:
-The room at the end of the available video is quite a bit larger than in the video I saw in 1993
-At the end of the video I saw in 1993 the boy with the camera gos into a small bedroom, an alien comes in behind him, grabs the camera from the kid and it turns the camera to the kid whose face is absolutely frozen.
-The camera in the available video is a lot more steady and has a lot more color (the video I saw in 1993 was more dull and shakier).
-The family look a lot different between the one I saw in 1993 and the availble one
-The Aliens look a lot different between the one I saw in 1993 and the availble one
And if that’s not enough differences, the original was on tv in 1993, the available one says it’s 1997.
So, there IS an original video and it is NOT available on the internet. The explanation of the original being burned in a fire is untrue because I know for a fact that it was aired on tv around the world in 1993, so how could all the copies have been in the same place at any given time and burned?
There’s bound to be someone out there who has it on VHS in a box in the attic stored away. I wish I recorded it when I saw it.
I do have a copy!! I recorded off the tv when it aired in 1998, not sure which version, i didnt know there were 2. I just saw on you tube a video that looked exactly like the one I have, except it was a girls birthday party, and it was so much alike, i Freaked out just now, then thot about the mcPherson tape, and noone i ever met ever had seen except for here at my house ! So i thot i would google it, and found you here today ! Get back to me..trying to figure out how to get it from video vhs to my computer. lol Love Star*

Darren, I am 100% sure that the description I gave was what I had seen. The one you are talking about is different if it ends in a bathroom. There must be 3 or 4 remakes done between 1993 and 1998. Who has the original?

Hi. i saw the original when aired and the boy was in bathroom.Was real convinced it was real film .Where are the true facts. No where i can find..But it was a hair raizer i remembered all my life and have talked about.Dont waste time on later made films,, Its the real one or nothing..More real police reports. spine tingler .one of the best if it was indeed a fake.

Your probably right,my memory isnt the best.im just now discovered this site after going over and over that show in my mind for many years. It was only showed 1 time on tv.This newer verson i saw wasnt close and way fake.Just why no copy of first aired film. Say it was burned.Im not buying it.Cant say i believe in demons but have had pleanty of spirit world contacts. I have seen both of the ones everybody talks about. And both are different from the one I saw on tv in early 1998. The one I saw was on a grainy video tape and ended with an alien taking the camera away from Tommy. Would love to find it. Will pay top dollar. Peace!!!

I believe the one that was shown on TV in 1998 is a different version of the version distributed in the UK that’s widely available on the video streaming websites. I also remember the TV version not ending with aliens walking in and taking the family away, which is how the UK version ends. The UK version is a feature film, the UPN TV version is a TV Special. Searching through storage, I managed to find the UPN TV Special on VHS, I will get around to watching it soon and will update.
My quest has ended. I’ve been searching for the original version for about a decade and finally came across it this week! This is what I’ve concluded.
- The original version is from 1989. It starts out with a title that informs the viewer that the footage is from 10/3/1983 and then an intro plays displaying the title as “U.F.O. Abduction.” It starts out with a family dinner (three men [brothers], three women [the brothers' mother, one man's wife, one man's girlfriend], and a girl). It’s the girl’s (Michelle) birthday, so they turn out the lights to have birthday cake, but when they try to turn the lights back on, they don’t. They go outside to check the fusebox, but it’s fine, so they gather candles and a lantern. They see a red light fly over them and investigate, find a UFO, see the aliens, then run back to the house.
This version is an hour and five minutes in length and has end credits in addition to a title sequence.
This version was shown in Japanese theaters with the movie Tokyo Fist in 1995.

The title is “U.F.O. Abduction,” there are no McPhersons in the video, but the character named Mike who is behind the camera is listed in the credits as Dean Alioto.
There are very little special effects used and even the shotgun sounds are dubbed in.
- The next version is the TV version for the US. This was aired as a “Fact or Fiction” special on UPN in 1998. It is the same footage as shown on Sky TV in the UK, however it is edited down to one hour with many “talking heads” inserted.
It begins with a Thanksgiving dinner and is special effects heavy compared to the original 1989 version.
This version aired twice. The first version ended with Tommy McPherson talking into the camera and an alien taking the camera from him. The second version was an extended version and continued to show the aliens entering the house.
This version is titled “Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County: Fact or Fiction?”
- The final version is the one that is widely available on the Internet, released on VHS, and played on Sky TV in the UK. It is Dean Alioto’s final cut of the film with only a few “talking heads” interrupting the “found footage.”

Unfortunately, all of these versions are movies. Though the 1989 version has much more realistic acting than the 1998 version, it too is a movie and not actual genuine found footage.
All of this said, I hope it clears everything up. Here’s to hoping Dean Alioto decides to release all versions on a format that won’t degrade over time
So, I am completely on par. I was 8 when I first saw the video, 1993 as well. It scared the crap out of me, growing up I came to the conclusion it was a fake. Now, the videos available are shit. Had I seen the video available now in 98 when I would have been 12 and starting high school I would have laughed my ass off. They are not the same, the dialect is similar. But it is far from the original movie I saw. The aliens were not in stupid black suits, in fact you barely saw them at all, and the kid hid in what I thought was a closet from the aliens, that’s how it ended, kid frozen solid with fear as the alien took the camera from his hand. They did not take one into their house, they shot at them through windows and where scared shitless. I am sure if I think hard enough I can bring back more (Photographic memory, I can even tell you my phone number at the time was 06 326 9922 not hard I know, it’s a New Zealand number. Fuck I remember the day Kurt Cobain died, princess Dianna died and other creepy shit I should have forgotten too) Also, I haven’t bothered watching the newbs so correct me if it happens in the new ones, but the family had triangle chunks of skin missing from the back of their necks at one point. The shot guns got melted/bent and left on the ground or door step when the men went missing and there is so much more.. A fake video made of a real video, and then a fake of the fake was made, that is a massive massive fuck up. Some one is trying to convince me I am crazy. No shit, I still don’t think Aliens have visited, but with this much fucked up shit around it.. I am beginning to think I am going to be one of those crazy fuckers when I am older.
Let me just start out with saying I totally remember this video from the day it came out and too have been searching for the original. I recorded it at the time it aired and as i was watching it, the kid with the camera kept pausing it from time to time. I slow motioned through a lot of it and found that the breaks had other video skits in them. One in particular was at the end. A shot of the aliens on their space ship with one holding the kid that seemed to be knocked out and the alien holding him up as if it where a hunting prize. Then they threw the camera out the ship to the ground. That was the original. Now there has been other remakes without the breaks in different scenes. (The White Noise). Yes this was back in 1993. The family did attend a birthday party for the little girl. The family did shoot through the windows at the aliens and they also shot at them outside. I feel that when the video was turned over to the police, the media took advantage of it and ran with the story which became the movie of the week at the time. However the investigators kept the truth under raps. What is the real story? What really happened?
Don’t take things for granite when you see them on TV or in real life. Things are not as they seem or are they? What do you believe?

There HAS been a cover up of the U.F.O alien phenomenon and many people have been called crazy and discredited which is plain unfair.
Keep checking back here to view comments, I will. Not because I need other peoples confirmation, because I already know what the case is, but because I am purely interested in how many people actually saw what I saw.
Yes the original was around an hour long and some of the small snippets you see around the place are just pathetic.
To whoever is involved in covering this up, you did very well because I’m still yet to find the original but I don’t even care now because there are many other cases which confirm the UFO phenomenon to be a reality, including some very close to home.
It is, in fact, the cover up of this abduction case that got me started into investigating the UFO phenomenon in the first place. The cover up is greater evidence, to me, than the actual original video itself.
It’s time to let the mass of people know. There is a revolution happening worldwide and it is only inevitable that with that revolution, people will learn of the great cover up of the UFO subject.
I can understand why it got coverd up to begin with, because of the world wars and the risk of certain nations finding technology that could have been used to take control of Earths human race.
I salute those that can think for themselves and go against the flow. Looking at the state of the world it’s pretty obvious that the way that most people think, only leads to poverty, injustice, hate and unfairness. The weak people that take the easy path of blocking out the worlds issues and problems and let the worlds leaders deal with the problems are extremely blind and naive, not to mention selfish and careless. People need to analyse the worlds current state, then apply the current trends to a million years into the future. Where will humanity be then? On this current trend, it will not exist in a million years.
This is why it’s important to start bringing the major secrets to light. All the world leaders are concerned with is money, and how to get as much as they can.
i remember seeing the video the governors wife describes a very long time ago… i had never heard anything more about it until a random memory was sparked and i tried to find more information about it. at the time it scared the hell out of me; i was as paralyzed as the boy in his bedroom in the last scene. i wouldn’t mind seeing it once more.
I too remember this video only I never saw it on tv. My mother use to run a UFO research group and people were always sending her all sorts of things, including a tape that sounds very similar to the one you’re all talking about.
It starts out focusing in and out on a plate of spaghetti. A family is gathered for a little girls birthday and the guy behind the camera states that he’s trying to figure out how to use the new camera. It’s really slow and boring but then the power goes out. The guys go outside to check the fuse box & I remember thinking it had to be real cuz the guys were cussing & farting. They see odd light in the distance & they go to check it out, thinking it may be a fire at a neighbors home. They see a spacecraft and aliens as they’re crouched in some bushes. Suddenly an alien turns & looks directly in the camera.
The men freak out & run back to the house hysterical. The women think they’re just trying to scare them & the mother of the little girl gets mad & tells them to stop. The guys are still freaked out & talking quietly about what they saw while the little girl opens her gifts. A while later the couple with the daughter get ready to leave & the little girl hands her aunt a picture she drew using her new art set she got for her birthday. The aunt comments on what an odd picture it was & hands it to the camera guy. He focuses on it & starts shaking because the picture looks like the aliens they encountered in the woods. The third guy runs out after the family telling them to come back & they ask the little girl what she drew & she responds by saying she saw it in the window earlier.
Everyone starts freaking out & none of the cars will start. Aliens try to get in the house & one comes down the fire place while another one is floating on the ceiling. They end up shooting one dead & toss it in a bedroom. They try to calm down & come up with a plan & sometime later the camera guy goes to get a closer look at the alien. He goes into the room but the body is gone. He goes back freaking out & the grandma is fed up. She says they have to calm down for the girl’s sake & the mom screams to get the camera out of her face.
The camera guy sets the camera down in the living room but leaves it running & pointed at the kitchen. They all go into the kitchen to play cards & you can hear them talking. After many minutes pass it goes silent & you see something on the opposite end from the kitchen move. Suddenly three aliens appear from the hallway & seem to float into the kitchen. The third alien stops & turns to look at the camera & the footage stops. There are no credits but it shows photos of the entire family & says they are all missing & a number to call if anyone has any information. I believe my mother still has it.

Hey I saw the video in 93 also. I’d love an original copy of it as I recall it was on tv on unsolved mysteries. It was around thanksgiving and that’s why they were showing it. Because the video was thanksgiving and at the end the person taking the video went to his bedroom and sat down the camera turned toward the door where an alien was standing behind it the door closes the alien walks over to pick up the camera and show the persons frozen face and sets the camera down to end the movie. OMG! i knew it! Ive seen the video when it first showed on TV i guess the whistle blower beat the gov to the punch. when I found the video on youtube a year ago I knew it was fake! And from what i remember tommy was not in the bathroom nor was he in a single file line while getting abducted LOL. I vividly remember that he was stuck in a room after the ETs entered and he was at a stand still (maybe telepathic powers from the aliens?) and the ETs came and took his camera and looked at it (not a human-like behavior compared to if we humans had encountered an unfamiliar species face to face) and that was the end of the video. and the gov seemed to have forgotten that it was aired to hundreds of thousands of ppl that believe. And for you non-believers, please just go spoon yourselves for being so naive to think humans are the only intellegent species in this universe. Go research on the NASA photos of aldrin and armstrong landing on the moon. tell me if they are real and how they are real. only after you do your research will I admit that i am not 100% correct with my memories. If you dont believe me, then read up on David Adair (not a hoax/scam artist). This is reality and its better to believe then not to believe. Keep your eyes to skies fellas.
And one more thing for you non-believers. Explain how NASA’s “video of earth from the moon” is real while you clearly see earth’s ozone after the camera pans away from the astronauts. gov is sooooooo dumb. and please …email me as many times as you’d like. Uh hi everyone.. I found snippits of what I assume is the “real” vid Gov keeps describing. I found those a few years ago on youtube(as helpful as youtube is >rolls eyes<)and I've been trying to find the actual video even though it's probley not on the internet. If anyone has the video and can transfer it to the computer I'd love a copy to veiw. I never saw the original in 1993(was born in '95). So I can't relate to all of you guys. I've also seen one of the remakes of the original. IT was the one where Tommy was in the dining room with Rosie. A red light appeared in the hallway and the aliens came in and lead Rosie and the other lady away. Tommy was left all scared and froozen in place. Thats the remake I've seen…
But yeah a copy of the original would be awesome…

to governors wife.. i saw the 98 version on tv, the kid is in a room the “alien” was behind the door, so your right,, in the begining the guy gets burned by the laser badly they were gutting a cow, the guns & stuff was melted in the 1 i saw,,the little girl says “don’t worry it will only burn for a minute or second then they all get the burning triangle. the “ball light” through the window happens a second b4 all that.. i would love 2 know if any1 has the real one with the host in the begining talking about it first then at the end he talks again and it shows there pictures & gives a # 2 call if any1 has any info..

i saw the one the governors wife is talking about i remember the kid going in his room at the end and turning and a alien being behind the door, ive been searching for this the past about 15 years. i was in i think 9th grade they aired it on news channel 43 i think it was. im 30 now i cant believe i found this page and so many people remember this. my friend had it on vhs but i lost contact with him after that year he dropped out of school. someone should post the versions on youtube
