Mystery Time Space or The Mystery of Time and Space which is often refereed to as MOTAS is a very popular online adventure game which is created by Jan Albartus (LOGAN). This game is made by using Macromedia Flash, now known as Adobe Flash. MOTAS is an influential example of escape the room genre. At present the game consists of 20 levels which will soon increase in the upcoming versions of the game.

Also, Mystery Time Space is available in as many as 15 languages; these include English, French, Spanish, Japanese, and German etc. The game also has a moderated chat room which is available for the players to discuss the game.

Like other games of this genre, the player interacts with the environment in this game by clicking on the elements which are there in the game’s environment so as to solve the game’s puzzle, with most of the elements exhibiting science fiction influence and high technology. The game environment can also be searched by clicking at various spots on the environment so as to uncover hidden items. These retrieved items are thus used to interact with the environment in order to solve the puzzle. A player can use the retrieved item by clicking on the inventory in Mystery Time Space.

Also solving puzzles will also retrieve items, codes, passwords etc. which in turn will help you in solving another puzzle. Therefore the player should apply lateral thinking when trying to find the uses for the retrieved item.

Many of the elements within Mystery Time Space such as pieces of furniture or some puzzles themselves can be interacted without using any additional item.

As the game advances, the game play itself steadily evolves and at the same time the puzzles and levels become more hard and complicated. Levels start shifting towards multiple rooms and eventually ventures into an outside world beyond locked buildings. When a player advances to higher levels, then the player acquires a device which is called “Manipulator of Time and Space (MOTAS)” device. This device takes the player back to the earlier levels via time travel in order to retrieve the items, then by using the same device the player again comes back to the current level to solve the current puzzle using retrieved items.

MOTAS or Mystery Time Space was created in November 2001. At that time, it featured only one room and was hosted on free web server. In the following year, only a counter was added to this game. And as of May 2008, this game has 20 levels plus and end level, which is also called guestbook.
