In 1984, President Ronald Regan challenged the world to build a space station. At that time it was inevitable that this projected will be completed. But after more than a decade and many ups and downs the first element of space station or international space station (ISS), as sometimes it is called, will be soon launched from Russia.

The various partners that are involved in this mammoth project include United States, Japan, Canada, Russia etc. In the history of the world never had so many countries came together and contributed to have a monumental effect on the humanity over the coming years.

Many types of experiments can take place in the micro gravity environment of space station model. The long term scientific benefits associated with space station model to the human race will definitely exceed our expectations. The space station model will travel in an orbit ranging from 160-260 miles above the earth. The speed will be around 17500 mph, thus an orbit will require a maximum of one and an half hours to complete. The crew of the space station will consist of three members who will be increased to seven. The crew members will come from different countries and their makeup will be decided by mutual agreements of various partners.

Inter Mountain Railway Company of Longmont, Colorado and Johnson Engineering of Houston, Texas have come together to develop this space station model, which is 1:144 scale model of ISS. Once this model is finished, its dimension will come out to be 30x22x20". It is basically injection molded in styrene plastic. ISS will also be mass produced in different versions in order to meet the varying needs for suck kind of model.

This space station model is assembly of around 320 parts divided into 36 modules. These 36 modules are packed in four blister trays that make it easier to assemble and dissemble the modules. A very high quality stand is also included in the model. Also the parts are fully decorated, including decal and paints.

The complete space station model includes the following
- 11 Rotating Solar Panels
- 3 Space Vehicles
- 1 Sliding Robot Arm Trolley
- 24 Preprinted Solar Panels
- 2 Revolving Truss Structures
- 4 Positionable Robot Arms
- 11 Rotating Solar Panels
- 20 Modules, including Destiny, Centrifuge module, Columbus, Kibo, and Russian modules.
- 3 Pivoting Radiators
